Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the influential factors on health promotion behaviors by community dwelling old person with low economic status. The sample consists 256 older adults 65 and older residing in Busan(Gijang) who are receiving public assistance. This study examines the effect of demographic factors(age, gender), physical function, cognitive-perception(self-efficacy), community environment(family¡¯s function and support, social participation, sense of community, community support) on the health promotion behaviors. As statistical method, correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple regression analysis are used. The results of this study are followed. First, the mean score for health promotion behaviors was 2.2 on a 1-4 point scale. Among sub-domains, exercise and self-actualization are very low. Second, after controlling for demographic factors, age, self-efficacy, family support, social participation are shown to be significant predictors on health promotion behaviors in older adults with low economic status. The results of this study suggest some practical implications in developing health promotion program for older adults with low economic status. We need to emphasize social relations and social participations as well as direct educations of health promotion for older adults with low economic status. In addition, we are necessary to intervene health-promotive environments for them.
